Sets a new record for Norwegian hotels in June

More expensive holidays abroad may have contributed to more Norwegians starting their holidays in hotels in Norway.

In June, 2.8 million hotel nights were registered in Norway, up 4.6 per cent from the same time last year. This is shown by recent statistics from Statistics Norway.
- The weak krone combined with travel-loving Norwegians and foreigners has given the hotel industry a good start to the summer. The weak krone may also have contributed to Norwegians starting their holiday domestically, says advisor Boyd Oyier at SSB.
A weak krone makes it more expensive for Norwegians to travel abroad, while at the same time it becomes cheaper for foreign tourists to holiday in Norway.
It was Norwegians in particular who increased hotel visits, with almost 2 million overnight stays in June. This is an increase of 6.4 per cent from June 2023.
Foreign hotel stays increased by 0.7 per cent, to 838,000.
- Another reason for the increase in hotel overnight stays.

Increased pricesLodging turnover at the Norwegian hotels increased to nearly NOK 2.8 billion in June this year, up 6.4 per cent from June 2023.

- Many hotels have reported that prices have increased due to a general rise in costs and increased demand, says Oyier.
The average price of a hotel room was NOK 1,500, an increase of 3.0 per cent from last year.
Prices rose most in Nordland, Vestland and Møre og Romsdal, and fell most in Akershus and Svalbard.
Hotel stays in Nordland, Vestland and Akershus contributed most to the overall rise in June. Nordland and Østfold accounted for the largest percentage growth in overnight stays, with an increase of 19 and 13 per cent respectively.
Oslo tops the list of overnight stays with 560,000 hotel nights, followed by Vestland with 491,000 overnight stays.
